What the hell is going on here? This is shocking.
I can't help seeing a link between this sort of disturbing repression and the ongoing flouting of human rights at George Bush's fun factory, Guantanamo Bay. And whilst I'm at it, what have we, the British, done to protest at the real travesty of this war?

I don't want anyone leading the United States who cannot prevent security guards from unjustly tasering a man who decided to express himself.
I'm so sick of staged debates with rehearsed questions and answers. You do not deserve to be in a position of power if you cannot respond impromptu to candor.

Interesting stuff - no doubt there is something to be learnt from this.
And I notice that it has been on TV, openly discussed, on YouTube, etc.
All part of freedom and liberty.
And that doesn't negate what happened.
eh, the guy is a wank. he wanted to provoke a reaction and he did.
his first mistake was to try and f*** with a heavily protected, famous politician speaking at an event where you know there security all over the place. his second mistake was resisting the police. that's a no brainer. additionally, witnesses said he was freaking out and causing a ruckus *only* as long as cameras were recording. once he was off camera, he apologized to security. what a performance!
i'm not condoning their actions, nor saying it was the appropriate reaction by security/police (clearly, it was over the top), but there is no shortage of people who provoke others to action, then claim they are the victim. his actions were downright stupid.
freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything, anywhere. there are rules about how you express yourself and when in loads of places, be that at work, in court, etc.
i'll agree with you on one thing, GW's got no qualms about messing with people's liberties. between the illegal wiretaps and guantanamo, i think there's real reason for all of us to be concerned.

Of course he was looking for a reaction - but presumably from Kerry, not a taser? It seemed to be a question and answer session...his question did not seem unreasonable...in what way was that not the place to act as he did?
After all, aren't security there to ensure the security of the VIP, not the sanctity of his argument? Did he in any way compromise security (prior to rightly resisting arrest - arrest for what?). Did he incite anyone to violence? It looks like a clear infringement of free speech to me. Getting tasered for that - I think it's deeply shocking.
