Meaning

How important is meaning at work? What I mean by meaning is a sense of purpose; that what you do is important, and that the organisation you work for is doing something inherently meaningful.

i've always found it more important that my day-to-day activities at work were meaningful for me, rather than the organization itself that i work for.

i've turned down interviews for companies that did not align with my morals, but it's a capitalist society and few people have the privilege of working for an inherently meaningful organization.

my job is to literally make websites easier for people to use. do i always love the content? no, but i find meaning in improving their experience and enabling my colleagues to do their work better.

Interesting, and thanks for your response.

Does work therefore need to tap into any 'higher purpose' or is making life easier for your users the higher purpose?

Do you look to find meaning in other areas of your life, so work is more of a means to an end, or do you find the idea of meaning a little silly, or missing the point?

Genuine questions.
